The Mission: Our goal is to provide the world’s most environmentally friendly coffee, and to do that without sacrificing taste or quality.  We refuse to compromise on our vision.  It’s the 21st century, and we believe that you shouldn’t have to chose between having great tasting coffee and having an environmentally friendly lifestyle.

How we accomplish this:

Transparency: We aim to be as transparent as possible with all we do, especially with regards to the environment.  If something we do isn’t obvious to you, feel free to ask.  We’re more than happy to answer any questions you might have.

Accountability: Along with our goal to be transparent is our goal to be accountable.  We expect you (our customers, stakeholders and critics) to call us out if we’re not living up to the high goals we’ve set for ourselves.

Improvement: Our motto is to “always be improving”.  We’ve taken considerable steps already to limit our environmental impact, but we know that’s not enough.  Striving to be the world’s most environmentally friendly coffee company requires constant work and constant improvement.  It’s a goal we’re excited to pursue.

Persistence:  We refuse to accept anything less than the best, with regards to both the quality of our products as well as to how we limit our environmental impact.

Listening:  We’ve taken a lot of steps to limit our environmental impact, but we’re constantly looking for feedback from anyone and everyone.  We are always open to new ideas for improving our environmental efficacy.

Steps we’ve taken:

Fair Trade Certified - We ONLY use Fair Trade certified coffee beans.  We believe in providing a fair wage to all coffee farmers.  We refuse to exploit coffee farmers to cut costs.

Organic Certified - We ONLY use certified organic coffee beans.  We’re big proponents of sustainable agricultural practices, and we see no reason to poison the environment by using chemicals and pesticides to help artificially increase coffee yields.

Carbon Neutral -  We’ve worked with Sterling Biosciences, a local environmental consulting company, to calculate our Carbon Footprint.  We’ve worked with them to reduce our carbon footprint where possible and then offset the rest of the emissions throughout the product life-cycle, from farming all the way through to consumption.

Corporate Tithing - We give back 10% of all profits to environmentally friendly charities.

Clean Roasting - We use a catalytic oxidizer in the coffee roasting process to help reduce emissions related to roasting.  Beyond that, we’ve taken steps to reduce energy  usage throughout the roasting process, allowing us to provide a streamlined and environmentally friendly end product.

Clean Shipping - We use Tyvek packaging to ship all our products.  This is an easily recyclable material and helps us significantly reduce our shipping footprint.

For us, being environmentally friendly isn’t a marketing strategy, it’s something that we’re all very passionate about.  We do it, not to help sell more coffee, but because we feel it’s the right thing to do.
